Ah, so here we are. You're here. I'm here. Maybe we don't know each other? If that's the case, I'll do a quick intro: I'm Stephanie, and yes, you can call me Steph. I'm twenty-something Leo (rising sign: Leo; moon sign: Sagittarius), and will be twenty-something-and-one on July 26. I'm a born and raised Texan. No, I don't really have an accent (I think?), yes I say "y'all" (y'all is gender neutral! It's better than "you guys"). I applied to join the Peace Corps at the end of 2017, and moved to serve in the Education sector. Okay, up to speed? Great! Let's continue.
We’re officially one week into my 27 Month commitment with the Peace Corps, and we’re finally no longer jet lagged (!!!). For those who may not know, I’ll give ya a lil recap: I left Texas two weeks ago, spent a week with my family in New York, then flew to Detroit, Michigan on June 30 for Staging. Following Staging, 72 Peace Corps Trainees (PCTs) had to check-in and go through airport security. Two flights and 25+ hours later, we landed in Manila! Our first two weeks in country are spent in Initial Orientation, and we’re currently staying in dorms, learning Tagalog, going over Safety & Security (so… ya know… I don’t get pickpocketed or… die), Medical policies (ouchie! Shots! And not the fun kind!), Peace Corps Policies, and just getting to know our Batchmates. It’s a lot to take in, my days start at around 6 AM, and I’m back on coffee every day. Today, July 8, is my day off for the next three weeks. This week will be filled with observing classrooms, demo-teaching, learning/singing the National Anthem of the Philippines, and more language learning. Whew! The Grind! Never! Stops! Anyways,
I’m making it a goal of mine to keep up with this blog, but I may not have the time or internet connection to commit myself to weekly posting. I’m going to try though! Comment down below your favorite travel memory, and your tips for fighting jet lag.
xo,
Steph

Steph,
When I heard you were joining the Peace Corps, I raced up to the JFK Presidential Library and took a picture of the official document JFK signed to launch the program.
You are walking in the footsteps of so many great Americans who have offered their service in the name of friendship and service. I am so proud to follow your story.
Big hugs from Texas.
